                    GARY'S ALL STAR AWARD

                                     GARY CONNAUGHTON

Westmeath goalkeeper Gary Connaughton has announced his inter-county retirement.

An All Star in 2008, Connaughton bows out after a decade as the Lake County's first choice goalkeeper. He informed team-mates of his decision in the wake of Saturday's surprise All-Ireland qualifier defeat to Fermanagh.

The 33-year-old Tubberclair clubman and former Newcastle United triallist won a Leinster U21FC medal in 2000, but his graduation to the Westmeath senior team took longer than expected due to his involvement with Athlone Town in the League of Ireland.

Within a few months of the late Páidí Ó Sé's arrival in the Lake County, however, Connaughton had established himself in the number one jersey and was one of the stars of the historic 2004 Leinster SFC triumph.

He remained one of the top 'keepers in the game - helping Westmeath to Allianz League Division 2 honours in 2008 - before suffering a broken ankle while playing in Boston last summer. Following his recovery from that injury, Connaughton recommitted for another season.

Tubberclair Gaa would like to thank Gary for the commitment he has put into the sport for Westmeath and Tubberclair. It is a credit to himself for the time he has and still is putting into the club and wish him the very best for the future with Tubberclair club.

Code of Best Practice and Club Rules- Tubberclair Gaa has passed a Code of Best Practice and Club Rules for adherence by all club member and non members. This Document can be view in the Tubberclair Gaa menu section.
